Summary project #3 provides an excellent forum to showcase the effectiveness and viability of GPS's approach to client mold issues. This event occurred at a remote USAFB in the Midwest where a contractor had just begun work on a six-year housing project to be 1,500 homes. This military contract encompasses a number of sites and the contractor will ultimately be responsible for more than 6,000 units when fully built-out.

The problem they encountered was extensive and pervasive and affected each of the first sixteen units in the first phase of construction. While mold infestations can manifest from a variety of sources, this one was clearly the work of Mother Nature and inclement weather. Mold had emerged with a vengeance and covered thousands of square feet of OSB building materials and all wood framing, joists, and floors.

The obvious path would have been to remove and replace all the affected materials, but this option was hugely expensive and would destroy the time line and harm the reputation of the contractor with the military Contracting Officer so very early in this major project. Certainly, if the choice was taken to rip, tear and replace, the risk for the same issue to repeat itself would be very high. They could easily envision spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and many weeks/months to return the site back to a normal state, only to have a weather event, other water intrusion, or tainted building materials create a subsequent repeat of the scenario.

GPS was provided the opportunity to attempt to salvage this severely damaged site as an alternative to the flawed options mentioned above. Our scope of work called for our team to process and prepare the sixteen sites for our application method, and to do so in ten working days. The GPS team in this case consisted of three professionals who traveled more than 1,900 miles each way to accomplish the impossible.

Conclusion: GPS was able to turn around an untenable situation to the satisfaction of its formidable client, completing the project on time and at budget despite site and base issues, and continuing weather stoppages. There was no damage to any relationships and no negative affect to the client's contracted time line commitment. This client will provide its recommendation for GPS upon request.
